Asados, Elevators and More in Buenos Aires

When someone visits Buenos Aires, Argentina for the first time they often are confused by the elevators in most apartment buildings. Unlike in the United States, most of the elevators here do not have automatically closing doors. Instead, they have 2 separate retractable doors that need to be manually opened and closed when entering and exiting the elevator. This is a new concept to some tourists and many do not fully close the doors, which activates a loud alarm that is very bothersome to people that live near the elevator. Elevators can be very confusing after drinking a few glasses of wine at one of the coolest wine tastings in Buenos Aires.

I recently was at an asado on the terrace of a friend’s apartment, which is on the 14th floor, and some of the guests were new to the city and forgot to close the doors, which caused quite a bit of drama. In the end we forgave them because they brought us a great bottle of malbec wine they had brought from Mendoza to taste. We did our own little wine tasting at the party, which consisted of a Malbec, a Bonarda, and a Torrontes.

It was great to see how each of them paired with the steak that we grilled on the parilla. While I am lucky that I know people with their own parillas here in Buenos Aires, I still highly recommend that one of the activities besides a tango show, estancia visit, and polo lesson that people to do is go to a steakhouse, called a parilla here, during their visit. Many people say that their favorites are La Cabrera in the Palermo neighborhood and Cabana Las Lilas, located in Puerto Madero

My husband is quite the craftsman. He built most of our furniture at home – our entertainment system, our coffee table, our daughter’s crib and so on. I have to say, he is pretty skilled and we have saved a lot on furniture expenses because of this. He has improved over the years, too. I guess it was far better to invest on the proper tools than buy furniture that are overly marked up by manufacturers. We have been hearing so many positive reviews on ergonomic furniture and my husband started learning about their features. This weekend, he is going to give building an ergonomic desk a try. He told me not to expect a great result, though, since he still has to learn about the adjustability and everything else about ergonomic desks. He has my full confidence. He has never failed me and my daughter yet with his creations. I bet this will be great!

A Solution That is Both Practical and Decorative

After living in our newly built house for a year, I decided it was high time to make it start looking more like a home. The window treatments, paint and fixtures that came as part of the basic building package were so neutral as to become really boring over time! I wanted something that had a lot more personality and style. The original vinyl blinds were not only boring, but not even doing their job on the East side of the house where all our bedrooms are located. When the sun comes up, it floods all three of our bedrooms with blinding light and heat, which is not good for people who work the afternoon shit and need to be able to sleep a lot later in the day than most people. I’d end up moving to the sofa because the living room wasn’t so bright! I started to look for solutions, and found that window shutters were the perfect answer. Not only do they come in a lot of styles and shapes to fit even our huge and oddly shaped bedroom windows,(called the “eyebrow” and “elongated eyebrow) but they have many colors available that will coordinate nicely with the new paint colors that we are also going to use to redo the bedrooms. When wood shutters are closed, the room will actually stay dark, even when the sun comes up. What a relief! Another feature I love about wood shutters is that they are so much sturdier than typical vinyl blinds. They don’t get caught up, or bent when you try to clean them, or have cords that fail to pull them up or down. They stay looking just as nice as when you bought them. No more yanking blinds up and down because they are crooked on one side, or having the edges getting bent.

My Work Week

This week I had a really nice week it work. It was a relatively easy week, work on Monday and Tuesday was about normal, Wednesday we had a relatively heavy day, but on Thursday and Friday I was getting leadership training. I was glad that I was able to finish up the project I was doing before I started the training on Thursday because it wasn’t the sort of project that I can leave halfway done. The deadline is Monday, and I knew that I wouldn’t get done in time if I waited till then. So I was able to work it all out get it done by the end of the day Wednesday so that I can enjoy the training that we received and relax a little bit and enjoy the weekend without having to stress about that project still being pending. It’ll also give me a head start on the next project I’m going to start because I have Monday to get started on it even though we had originally planned to start on it by Tuesday.

I have a little place in West Virginia that is completely off the grid. I have about twenty acres of land and I have a number of alternative energy schemes going, but I do not have a lot of power. I have a little stream dammed up and I have erected two small windmills along with a number of solar panels. All in all it provides just enough power for my needs. How the Girls Spent One Rainy Day in July

One rainy day in July, Nia and her friends, Mimi and Agnes, were hanging out in the clubhouse. They would have wanted to stroll in the park, but the rain totally spoiled their plans for the day. Instead, the three girls found themselves in the ice cream parlor and decided to just enjoy their all time favorite dessert strawberry ice cream!
